Hello! This is my new dumb son, Jono Starsmore and his (mostly done) app is here.
He's from London and had a pretty normal upbringing (middle class, rocky home life, minor delinquent, aspiring musician, blah blah) until his powers manifested and ripped him apart when he was seventeen. He came to the Institute shortly after in 2022. He's got a massive hole in his chest and lower face with roiling psionic energy spilling out, though he often covers that up with bandages. It's all very dramatic and he has a lot of feelings about it. He dropped out of school as soon as he turned eighteen (to the chagrin of most everyone because it was a stupid thing to do) and joined the X-Men in early 2023.
Things that other folks may know about him include...:
He's depressed. 😎 He still struggles to accept himself as a mutant and feels like he lost everything when his powers manifested. While he functions fairly well from day to day, he's got a lot of self-loathing and discomfort with the way he is now and he can get deeeeep in his feelings for days at a time. If you need to find him, check his room. He's probably lying around in the dark listening to the Smiths.
In the field, he's all power and no finesse. He's got near-infinite energy and he can hit hard hard, but his control is middling and he can't be trusted to use his powers with any sort of precision. He can also take a beating and just keep getting back up because his physical body is sort of a decoration at this point; his energy is alive, his body isn't. He feels pain but as long as it's just physical he can usually push through it.
He's a telepath...technically. He really only uses his telepathic 'voice' to communicate since he doesn't have a mouth and hasn't shown any interest in exploring his mental abilities beyond that.
Because of his altered physiology, he doesn't need to eat, drink, or breathe. He doesn't need to sleep either, though he can lapse into a sort of trance state for a while when he's lucky. It's not at all uncommon to find him wandering around the mansion at night.
His manifestation happened in a very public setting (his band was playing a gig) and got recorded by a number of people. You can watch it on YouTube! He does when he's just wanting to hit himself where it hurts. Why not? As a little treat.
He's close friends with Paige Guthrie and has a crush on her that can be seen from space, though he refuses to act on it or acknowledge it. He was also Sam Guthrie's roommate for a while when he first came at the Institute as a student. The Guthries can't get away from him, apparently.
He joined the X-Men because he didn't know what else to do or where else to go, but his first real mission was rescuing mutants from Genosha and toppling the corrupt government and that put a lot into perspective for him. Fucked up world out there, huh? Somebody should probably do something about that. He's had a bit of a short fuse when it comes to protecting other mutants after that and has gotten into it with anti-mutant protestors in the past.
All that said, I don't have any specific lines in mind! I'm curious to see how his dynamic with the rest of Gold Team shakes out and what kind of relationship he had with some of the others as a student and then as an X-Man. I know Kurt has attempted to mentor him in the past (RIP), especially as a fellow 'couldn't hide if he tried' mutant, but that's about all that's been established~
