Kurt was taken in by Xavier when he was 14, the first student at the school. He was even familiar with Erik before he and Xavier broke up parted ways for good. He sees Xavier as his adoptive father, whether or not that's explicitly voiced. He came from a foster situation in Germany where his foster sister nearly died, and his foster brother really resented him for it. Generally terrible childhood. Xavier whisked him away to America and the rest is history.

He's outwardly extremely optimistic and enthusiastic, big positive emotions, etc. but it often veers into toxic positivity. This whole leader thing is hard, and he finds some people on the team to be pretty frustrating :))))) (cough cough emma and manny) But showing any of that makes him feel like he's not living up to Xavier's expectations. A soft touch, very well-meaning, but because Xavier's basically his father, he's ready to disagree with him or go against orders if he thinks he has a better idea. Kurt wants to prove himself, but also has a rebellious streak. As a teen when he wanted to be difficult, he'd bring up examples where he thought Erik was right.

He's a huge flirt and I think it would be fun if he was exes with a teammate (or two).

Devout Catholic who loyally goes to mass every Sunday, unless the world is ending or someone's trying to commit terrorism, in which case he's pretty sure Jesus will let him off the hook

Kurt's very front and center in the media as the leader of the X-Men because he wants to set a good example for mutants with visible differences. His experience as a teen with the Morlocks left a lasting impression on him. He's known to be charming and witty, even briefly dated a A-list human celebrity. His popularity is very... mixed.

TIMELINE

EARLY LIFE: Kurt as an infant was saved after what seemed like an attempted infanticide when someone* threw him into a river. From birth he was blue with a tail, and his time in German foster care was traumatic. He eventually settled into a home around 12 years old with a foster sister and brother. The brother and local kids were terrible to him, while the mother and sister were kind. One time while messing around as kids, his sister fell off a bridge and Kurt's teleportation manifested to save her. This caused more bullying from local kids trying to force him to teleport again, which he was not very good at.

*Mystique

Early 2012: Kurt is 14, he's found and taken in by Xavier, and also met Erik Lehnsherr who had a soft spot for him. Kurt was the first mutant Xavier took in for the school. He moves to America under Xavier's care, and gets to know both Charles and Erik for a bit before Erik leaves for good.

2014: Kurt had internalized some of the things Erik talked to him about when he was younger. Pretty upset about this turn of events, unsure how to feel. Meanwhile, he's a pretty popular student and a son to Charles.

2015 - Dancin' In The Dark: Kurt is abducted by the Morlocks, while blindfolded he's too nervous to teleport away. However, even once they let him see he stays with them to try and argue that mutants like them can find acceptance. He's very idealistic, and doesn't really understand how bad they have it. Callisto's interest in him is intimidating and unwanted. Mean while, being rescued by Emma gives him a sort of crush on her. Unfortunately.

2016: Kurt is now the leader of the X-Men. At this point in time, it's very exciting and he's ready to take on anything. Kurt and Emma are officially dating.

2018 - Wildways: Kurt's deeply annoyed that they've been reality tv fodder for who knows how long, but furious that Evelyn's been taken. Turns out he's also super popular in Mojoworld, and absolutely performs for the audience to get the team an advantage. He serves as a distraction for the team.

2019 - Days of Future Past: In the aftermath, Kurt is willing to go public because...... there is no alternative for him. He doesn't want to force other teammates to do so, but thinks it's necessary for general acceptance. He's not pushy about it but teammates might sense that he's silently judgmental if they don't want to stand with mutants like him.

2020 - God Loves Man Kills: Immediately runs to Erik for help. Might have been his idea. Kind of happy to reunite with him, but not happy with what Erik has become. Maybe they had some touching moments said entirely in German. Thrilled to have Charles back, ?sad? to see Erik leave again.

2021: Kurt becomes the face of the X-Men. He's a natural performer, and his charm makes him an easier pill to swallow than he would be otherwise. It's a very stressful time underneath the surface, as along with fans come a lot of people who really loathe him. Kurt does not shy away from the spotlight, and shows up for interviews and shows when his schedule allows. He dates an A-list actress for a few months and appears on the red carpet as her date.

Late 2021 to early 2022": I wrote a whole thing and then the site glitched but Kurt went missing for 6ish months when he was stuck in hell.

2022: Wow, this is awful. Kurt's extremely resentful but because he's a public figure, he registers. He also says in interviews that he thinks this is cruel and invasive, which makes him even less popular. He wants to say more extreme things, and in one interview crosses a line and quotes Erik which leads to an argument with Xavier.

2023 - X-Tinction Agenda: Horrible. Kurt leads the team to rescue the other mutants, and his happy demeanor is really being tested at this point. He wants to stay behind and help the survivors and understand Erik more, but needs to return to the US to handle the press and lead the team. He remains in contact with Eric via email/phone, and they kind of patch up their relationship. Could really use a vacation.

2024: He is not going to get a vacation. Kurt pulls himself together, puts on a smile, and tries not to think about death. :))) Talking to Erik more frequently over the phone, because he worries that confiding in a teammate will be putting his anxieties on their shoulders.

2025: wtf is on his tail

CHARACTERS: Jean Grey/Marvel Girl

[personal profile] totalities marvel girl Date: 2024-12-21 09:06 am (UTC)
totalities: (🔥 03)
Concept: Aware she is one (atypical) iteration of untold thousands, this Jean Grey's telepathic capabilities have been permanently altered or erased for reasons not understood by her or Xavier, although she has gained multiversal awareness in exchange.

Brief History: Jean's mutant powers manifested at the worst possible time: during mounting anti-mutant sentiment, when she was going through puberty and had just lost her best friend. She was shunted around various psychs and subjected to a battery of experiments to prove her extrasensory perception was real before her parents eventually entrusted her to the care of Charles Xavier when she was fourteen. The youngest member of the original X-Men team, she took to the work they did immediately and helping mutants around the world became her wholehearted passion.

When she was seventeen, she stepped away from the X-Men to attend Bard College, where her parents worked as professors. At the time she left for college, she did not intend to return to the team in earnest as she wanted to go to law school and become a politician, although she left on good terms and sometimes returned to help in crises. During X-Tinction Agenda, Jean went missing from her college town shortly before the Xavier's staff and students disappeared. After the events at Genosha, Jean's faith in her vision for her own life has been shaken, and she's ended up back at the Academy as a teacher and an active member of the X-Men again.

You Know Her As: The annoying little sister-type of the OG team who had intended to step away for good but recently joined back up. Unerringly loyal and kind as a friend, but chronically unable to leave well enough alone. Up in everyone's business, always. Xavier's brand-new Civics/Econ teacher. A never-satisfied overachiever with a dozen esoteric hobbies and skills. A notorious political activist for mutant rights who intends to be elected to the US Senate by age 30. Moderately more neurotic than a stock Jean Grey, but good at hiding it.

Etc: Mutual arch-nemeses with Senator Kelly. Very embarrassing to keep beefing with a teenage girl who only ever saves your life, Kelly. She regularly goes viral for dragging his ass on social media.

CHARACTERS: Jean Timeline

totalities: (pic#)
2015: Jean’s powers manifest after she witnesses her best friend Annie die in a hit-and-run car accident. At first, her parents and doctors assume her self-reported powers of ESP are traumatic delusions, but they are quickly demonstrated to be real when she also develops telekinetic abilities.

2016: Jean is sent to the care of Xavier, and soon after enrolls at the academy and joins the team at age 14 as Marvel Girl.

2018: Wildways: Jean’s incredibly divisive personality makes her the subject of much audience debate and she ends up having an outsized amount of screentime despite not doing much competition-wise. I like to think she got teamed up with a Deadpool at some point and found him profoundly annoying but their Statler and Waldorfing was a big hit with the audience.

2019: Days of Future Past: When asked to confirm Kitty’s claims Jean’s response was functionally “Yeah, this happens a lot.”

This was the first time Jean met Senator Kelly IRL and also the beginning of their public ongoing beef. She is, however, ideologically opposed to assassination, so she helped save his life anyway. A thank you would be nice!

Jean was pro-going public and threw a little hissyfit about it when she was outvoted.

2020: God Loves Man Kills: Jean’s pro-mutant political aspirations and the chip on her shoulder about being a less powerful mutant than a prototypical Jean Grey make her a little more susceptible to Erik Lehnsherr’s radical ideologies than she would otherwise be, and during this time she becomes particularly close with him.

When Erik declines Xavier’s invitation to join the X-Men, he extends Jean an invitation to instead join his Brotherhood of Mutants, which she declines.

Jean also left both the Academy and the X-Men in the fall of 2020 to attend Bard college. She makes the personal decision to do this publicly as a mutant, and also starts vlogging about her “normal life” as a mutant college student to a moderately large audience, although she does not disclose her previous affiliation with the X-Men.

2021: Jean’s social media following blows up in a huge way after the X-Men go public and she links her private identity with that of Marvel Girl’s. Huge day for the internet conspiracy theorists who had already figured this out.

2022: Jean intermittently returns to the team for a handful of missions as, functionally, publicity for her extensive Anti-MRA Campaign. During the last of these missions (coincidentally, right after Scott starts dating Madelyne) she informs the team members that she does not intend to return to the Institute or team on a permanent basis after she graduates, as she plans to attend law school and then run for office.

2023: X-Tinction Agenda: Jean disappears from the Bard campus over winter break and her family contacts Xavier after they fail to locate her on their own, around the time the students and staff go missing from the Institute. She is a favored puppet of the Magistrates, who use her as a mouthpiece basically any time they’re forced to talk to outsiders, including the X-Men. They make her behave as if she’s voluntarily joined them, although it is quickly apparent to anyone who knows her that this isn’t the case. She’s forced into combat with Scott before ultimately being rescued.

Jean has not spoken to anyone except Xavier about these experiences, but anyone who knows her can tell she was deeply rattled by the experience, so much so that she returns to the Institute to convalesce and ultimately finishes her senior year at Bard remotely.

Erik again extends her an open invitation to join him on Genosha, an offer which she initially refuses because she’s avoiding Scott but is still considering as she re-evaluates her goals for the future.

2024: At the beginning of the 2024 school year, Jean accepts a teaching position at the Institute as their civics/econ teacher.

hihooo. evie is as her lil summary journal-side reads :< but here are some thoughts/notes abt the timeline

she first arrived at skool in 2014, when she was 16 years old and had just gained a ton of attention online. her first few months were a little messy as she adjusted to huge life changes on multiple fronts, including her parents functionally ghosting her.

2015/dancin in the dark -- evie's first big ~mission. she has a romeo & juliet moment with one of the morlock teens and Weeps a lot about it after the groups disengage. there is an entire EP of ballads written abt this emotional experience. it's just not fair!!!!!! this world is so cruel and she will never love again, etc.

2016, 2017 tbd

2018/wildways -- evie learns to form constructs in mojoworld, marking a level up in her powers (and audience rating).

2019/days of future past -- following these events, evie is one of the louder proponents for "going public." she is already lowkey publicly known as a mutant and feels that she is constantly putting her ~art and her ~life "on the line" for mutant rights. activism becomes a visible part of her brand. in true youthful fashion, evie gets into several fights with other x-men during this period, convinced as she is of her own righteousness.

2020/god loves, man kills -- working closely with erik lehnsherr disavows her of this completely. (i think maybe this is also the year that vampires take over san francisco. was it san francisco? idk)

2021/ still, evie is thrilled when the team FINALLY does the right thing and goes public. she colorfully campaigns to draw new students to the school. who wouldn't want to learn to dance in DAZZLER'S class?

2022/ evie's public (and extremely dramatic) condemnation of the MRA invites negative press attention (flavor: what does evelyn free have against public safety? ++ grasping manipulative female narrative). she can't help but feel personally triggered by the amount of scrutiny in the bill AND in the media. this is her first true ~scandal, and while she feels she's done the right thing for mutant kind, her persona as a performer changes its balance: less of a quirky pop princess type, more of a DJ and experimental ~artiste. her fan base changes too. "Sparks" "light up the night" with various mischief. it's cool! also, she is blamed for many of the stupider things they do.

2023/x-tinction agenda -- evie remains on genosha to assist with island recovery. though she has thought of her time with erik lehnsherr somewhat negatively over the years, he is very kind to her now and she develops something of a soft spot for him, the Acolytes, and their approach to fixing up the mess. hmm. weird. in the summer of 2024 she surprise-releases a concept album about a group of philosopher monks rebuilding a post-war alien society. it does really well on the club circuit for some reason, and critics are fascinated at the change from her earlier work.

2024/ evie returns to the institute for christmas. it IS a somber holiday, and strange. she spends a lot of time at xavier's bedside, creating loops out of medbay noise samples and singing to him.
2025/ evie's marking appears in the center of her chest, to her great dismay.

i'd like to weave a bit about her criminal parents in there but i have not the brain at this time :<

edit: also, i think she has a manager and a press team who are all young mutants too

CHARACTERS: Emma Frost

[personal profile] frost_queen Emma Frost ♕ White Queen Date: 2024-12-21 07:03 pm (UTC)
frost_queen: (Default)
Emma grew up in Boston and was having an acceptable time living as a rich kid at a rich school with emotionally distant parents when, right before she turned 14, her powers manifested fully and she knocked out the entirety of Model UN for about a week with a powerful psionic blast. After a fight with her father she was kicked out and joined up with the Hellfire Club for about a year, training to (she was told) eventually take over the role of White Queen. After running into Xavier who actually wanted to help her and didn't simply want to use her like the Hellfire Club obviously did, she defected and joined up when she was 15. Became terrible terrible friends with Manual almost immediately.

While her morality is pretty grey in general terms, Emma has a code of conduct she sticks to and cares about people a lot, even if she can be mean sometimes. She tries to avoid reading minds too frequently, more for her sake than others - it sucks to get everyone's thoughts all the time. She... does not listen to Kurt all that well, sorry buddy 🥲 Is very attached to their little team, though. I don't have any lines that I need filled but am happy to fill them!! I know she has a crush on Scott that she hates but accepts 😌 I imagine she was very hit or miss as a person for most people - she clearly cares and can be kind and supportive, and loves to help however she can with training, but she has a nasty streak and usually thinks she's right.

She does not want to be known as a mutant, figuring this will complicate her life in a million different ways. Whenever she needs to do superhero things she uses an image inducer to give herself the appearance of a different (but still, of course, very attractive) girl/woman.

General Timeline (honestly mostly for me):
2012-ish/2013: Powers manifest, kicked out of home, joins Hellfire Club thanks to Mastermind/Jason Wyngarde.

2014: Defects to Xavier and settles into the school.

2015: Dancin' in the Dark - Beats up Callisto and, in her mind, now has sewer children. She sends the Morlocks useful gifts every Christmas.

2016: X-menning starts! She gets an image inducer to hide her identity because she doesn't want to wear a mask. Takes up the name White Queen just to be nasty to the Hellfire Club.

2017: Dates Kurt Wagner for a few months, during which they're very annoying. Break up not too long before Wildways for some extra Mojoworld drama.

2018: Wildways: This whole thing is annoying to Emma 😌

2019: Days of Future Past: All of this is bad. Emma fights against going public.

2020: God Loves, Man Kills: All of this is even MORE bad. Emma begins to consider an exit and eventually does go. She needs the space and she has another fight she needs to handle - her father has been using his vast wealth to support anti-mutant causes, including the forthcoming MRA.

2021/2022: Emma toils away at taking control of Frost International with her brother Christian as the figurehead, and her in the shadows. She does not register under the MRA, and does everything she can to speed up her takeover timeline. Publicly she is living a socialite life funded by her brother, where she posts Instagram pics daily about all of her nice beach vacations.

2023: The company is firmly in her and Christian's grasps, and Emma now is totally back in control of a vast amount of wealth. All the money that was flowing to anti-mutant causes now flows to pro-mutant ones. Her father is pissed. She's called back, however, for X-Tinction Agenda because she's not about to let her friends get kidnapped. Stays in Genosha for a bit after she takes Manny home, wipes his memories of bad shit, and makes sure he's ok. After a few months she goes back to running Frost International from the shadows

2025: She's back for good and pissed~ Did you miss her? 😘

CHARACTERS: Kitty Pryde

[personal profile] passingthru KITTY PRYDE Date: 2024-12-22 12:25 am (UTC)
passingthru: (🐉12)
CONCEPT:
Slightly late arrival both literally and in commitment to the X-Men, Kitty's racing to make up for lost time now that she's learned her own potential. She's from an upper middle class home where she was raised as a very gifted and talented child. While she doesn't often take a leadership role, she's a consistent and steady behind the scenes support who will jump into fires if she thinks it will help her teammates. Or because the fire looks fun.

PERSONALITY:
Playful, friendly nerd. Overconfident. Cocky. Strong underlying idea of I Can Handle It when she can probably not Handle It. Consequent impulsivity. Loyal and generous to her team and their students. Slight to moderate anti-authoritarian streak. Very intelligent, a little too smart for her own good, in fact. Looks as she leaps, which is often (but not always) enough. Strong sense of justice that she personally sets out to rectify when crossed. Witty, verbose, overlying paint job of being carefree. Unflinchingly honest, will say what she means to her/everyone's detriment. Not afraid of getting in little scuffles but forgives easily, especially with friends.

TIMELINE

2016: Kitty's powers first emerge at age 14, and she is shortly after asked to join Charles Xavier. Bad timing; her parents were fighting every day and she is thriving in school. Kitty refuses,on grounds that she does not need this level of intervention. Stigma against mutants plays into this choice. If she could control it herself, and escape that label, why wouldn't she?

2017: Found So quickly she could not control it herself. There's a phasing disaster at prom. (Have you ever fallen through a prom date? Kitty has. 0/5 stars.) She graduates early, anyway. Her parents divorce, anyway. She hadn't stopped that. She moves her plans to attend college to a virtual setup, and accepts Xavier's second offer.

Immediately kind of a challenge at the school. She was talented, a quick learner, and bonded quickly with the team, but was a little feral and resistant to structure. This was her "Professor Xavier is a Jerk" era; some growing pains especially directed at authority as she tried to decide if she was in the right place, and probably some parent issues too, if we are honest.

2018 Wildways: First big mission! She loves it despite herself and it's the first big indication that she couldn't go back to being the little suburban girl anymore. Nor does she actually want to. That girl didn't have a cool dragon. In Mojoworld, she's portrayed relatively positively, an underdog/newcomer story, especially when she is saved by Lockheed, with whom her image is now forever bonded.

2019: Days of Future Past: A future version of herself possesses her body and warns her friends of impending doom if they don't stop the assassination of some asshole Senator who she hates. Nice. While Older Kate is mostly on business during this event, she and Young Kitty have some conversations in their shared head, where Kate tells her just a little of what her life looks like in the future, and how she'd overcome some of Kitty's current emotional struggles. Young Kitty emerges from this experience with a quiet new resolve to become that other person, someday.

2020: God Loves, Man Kills: Kitty is and had been a proponent of going public, wanting to claim their identities as mutants from a place of pride, not shame. The Professor's kidnapping and subsequent events challenged this belief, but did not change it all the way.

2021: When the school opened up to new mutants, Kitty is immediately there to take them under her (or like, Lockheed's,) wing. She was never as public facing as some others in the school because of her espionage and hacker roles, but she did go public in support of those who had to. Here or slightly later, she hacked Senator Kelly's social media accounts to post pro-Mutant rhetoric. Thought she was a funny genius for this move. She was not caught, but it was pretty obvious where this came from for all who knew her.

2022: The arrival of the Sentinels seemed to point to a future she thought she'd helped avert. Does this mean her future self was wrong? Or she'd done something to mess it up here? Tried to figure out time travel via phasing to go ask her, which Could be possible, eventually, but she has no luck. To make herself feel better, practically riddles the internet with anti-MRA sentiment and no pro-MRA comment section knows rest.

At the same time, she finds herself higher in the X-Men ranks than she'd prefer, with Kurt vanished and Scott in charge. Kitty discovers her powers meant she could step through dimensions, and she does, once, to rescue her friend. Still, doing it even once leaves her drained for days, and she has never attempted this again.

2023: X-Tinction Agenda: Incensed when her friends, faculty, and students start going missing from the school, she's incredibly bossy on this mission. Apologies. She stays in Genosha after the rescue to assist with rebuilding technology. Befriends some of the Acolytes as she does. Maybe kisses one depending on how big of a mess she's feeling. (Pretty big mess).

2024: She returns to the Institute and establishes herself as an annoying (again) form of support to all her teammates who had just been kidnapped (again). During the holidays, doesn't leave the Institute to go back to Chicago at all for maybe the first time (missions allowing).

2025: Honestly kind of shamefully glad to have the 8 back in one place. Let's do some saving.

CHARACTERS: Manuel de la Rocha

[personal profile] empata Manuel de la Rocha (Empath) Date: 2024-12-22 01:21 am (UTC)
empata: lulamae @ ij (Default)
Hi Hello! I'm bringing in Manuel de la Rocha (Empath). I'll try to keep this brief, but ya'll know that's not my strong suit. :')

Background:
Manuel is from Spain and descended from nobility that no longer has any actual wealth or status to speak of but still has all of the pomp and pride. So he grew up focused on his image and his accomplishments. He also developed the first of his powers (emotional manipulation) in early childhood and grew up...about like what you'd expect with all that aligning. His second power (empathy/emotional awareness) came along when he was a tween and wrecked his life because it can't be turned off and it overwhelmed him, leaving him in a pretty bad place. Enter Charles Xavier, who brought him to New York, helped him with his powers, and tried to make him unlearn the terrible lessons of his childhood.

While he's one of the older members of the team, he left when the school went public and some members started stepping into public roles. He didn't want that for himself at all and also figured that having a string-puller on the team would be a PR nightmare with the people they're hoping to reach out to. So he bailed and went off to study Music at NYU.

Currently debating on bringing him back in via the Genosha plot, but that's to be determined. But he's back now, regardless! My sympathies!

Personality:
Manuel is confident and proud on the surface but fundamentally insecure underneath and desperate to prove his worth (or, even better, his superiority). He's sophisticated and clever. Polished and particular. While he can be superficially charming, his moods change quickly and he's got a mean streak when he's feeling slighted or judged or out of control. For better or worse, he's a loyal friend and confidant that will take care of his people his way. He also has a Complicated, love-hate sort of relationship with his powers and doesn't really know how to function without them.

Timeline:
2004: Manifests emotional manipulation abilities as a lil' one and is terrible.

2011: Manifests empathy/emotional awareness abilities as a tween and struggles. A lot.

2013: Invited by Charles Xavier to the Xavier Institute for Gifted Youngsters and reluctantly accepts because he can't handle this anymore. Once there, he gets a lot of one-on-one attention from Xavier (who is attempting to correct his moral compass) in addition to the standard education and training.

2014: Meets and befriends Emma Frost. Unfortunately for everyone involved, they form an instant kinship and are thick as thieves.

2015: Dancin' in the Dark -- This is not what he wanted to do in New York City at all. 0/10. But these sewer people matter to Emma now, so they matter to him at least a little.

2016: Joins the X-Men. There's a sense of freedom in being able to flex his powers and not get admonished for it (he's helping), but he's not entirely convinced playing hero will do them any good or that this is what he wants.

2018: Wildways -- Incensed that an extradimensional entity has been keeping tabs on them and that they're being dragged into a death game. Gets the shit kicked out of him until he figures out that his ability to manipulate emotions extends to any organic, sentient, sapient creature. This includes the wild variety of entities that can be found in Mojoworld. Good to know! Proceeds to sow chaos before they get the hell out of there.

2019: Days of Future Past -- Is a hard sell on protecting someone like Robert Kelly, but begrudgingly agrees that there's too much on the line not to intervene.

In the debate about going public, Manuel is a firm no. It will only make everything more difficult for them. And he still hasn't told his family he's a mutant. So there's that.

2020: God Loves, Man Kills -- Loathes these zealots and is ready to inflict as much damage as possible while getting Xavier back.

2021: Departs shortly before the school and the team go public, heading to New York City to study instead. Remains in touch but doesn't return in-person.

2022: Doesn't register under the MRA but is shaken by the unveiling of sentinels (since his powers would be utterly useless against them). He subtly takes out his anxieties on any anti-mutant protestors or outspoken bigots he encounters in the city -- get wrecked.

At the end of the semester, he intends to return to Spain to visit his family and is considering just staying. His home country isn't perfect either, but at least there are no giant killer robots. Unfortunately, he's intercepted by a Magistrate from Genosha on the way and abducted. There, he's hooked up to a device that amplifies his powers exponentially and used as another tool to keep the mutant population under control and the human population complacent. (À la his cameo in Age of Apocalypse).

2023: X-Tinction Agenda -- Is rescued by the team along with the other mutant captives on Genosha. The experience leaves more scars than he's willing to acknowledge, but residents of the institute get to share in the joy of his nightmares from time to time via subconscious emotional manipulation. Sorry, everybody.

Not long after, Emma offers to remove his memories of Genosha and he accepts. They follow through on this without consulting Charles (at Manny's request) or anyone else. This will certainly never have repercussions. He decides to remain at the institute for the time being and ends up teaching Music.

2024: Just before Christmas, finds Charles Xavier in a coma and gets a nasty psychic jolt when he tries to aid him. Womp womp.

Brief History:
Scott came to Xavier's at age 15, an orphan runaway with amnesia* and uncontrollable powers due to a TBI. He's forced to always wear ruby quartz glasses to contain his destructive optic blasts. Scott hero-worships the professor and has totally dedicated his life to supporting Xavier's dream.

*His parents died in a plane crash, he and his younger brother escaped using the only parachute, and he hit his head on landing. He doesn't remember much more about his childhood than this. He spent the next five years in a group home, suffering horrible headaches and occasional blackouts, until his powers manifested and he was found by Xavier.
Personality:
The boy scout—brave, responsible, idealistic, rarely puts a toe out of line. Serious to the point where it used to be weird to see him smile; he's relaxed a fraction over the years. One of the youngest members of the team, and extremely hard on himself because of it. Runs his days with the intensity of drill sergeant—partly because he never feels like he's as good as everyone else, and partly because he is pathologically afraid of losing control and hurting someone. Calm and decisive in deadly situations; cold and hesitant in social situations. Cares deeply about the X-Men, whom he sees as his family, but is awful at expressing his emotions there.
Timeline:
2016 - X-Gene activates at age 15. Arrives at the Institute. Adopts the codename of Cyclops for the X-Men.

2018 - Wildways - Despite racking up the most hours in the Danger Room out of anyone, Cyclops is so boring to the audiences of Mojoworld that they boo him when he enters Mojo's games.

2019 - Days of Future Past - Learns that he and Jean have a daughter (Rachel Summers) in this alternate future, which is a mindfuck when he hasn't so much as breathed a word to anyone about his (obvious) crush on present-day Jean. Naturally, he compartmentalizes this information and does nothing about it. Scott follows Xavier's lead in all things, including whether or not to go public (but since it was Xavier's idea in the first place to do secret identities, I think Scott is anti-going-public?).

2020 - God Loves, Man Kills - Was accompanying Xavier when he was ambushed, and kidnapped alongside the professor. Scott is used as a test subject for forcing Xavier to kill mutants. Resisting Stryker's programming, Xavier puts Scott's brain functions into stasis, enough to make Stryker believe he's dead. Although he's saved in time to help the others rescue Xavier, Scott blames himself for failing to protect him.

Concerned about long-term effects, Xavier does a deep dive into Scott's head and discovers extensive mental manipulation from his time before joining the Institute. Although Xavier is unable to identify the telepath who altered Scott's mind, Scott regains some memories of his childhood. As a precaution, he asks Emma to train him in telepathic shielding.

2021 - Agrees to reveal his identity, although he prefers to just act as an X-Man and a teacher at the school (geometry, trig, battle tactics). He'll do anything you order him to, Professor, but please don't make him do public speaking.

Going public puts Scott in contact with Alex Summers again, and it's a bit weird to everyone that Scott has never mentioned before now that he had a long-lost brother. Alex is a college freshman (and not a mutant unless someone wants to app Havok).

When Kurt vanishes, Scott is appointed as leader of the X-Men in his stead. He is now forced to do public speaking. :)

2022 - Scott begins dating Madelyne Pryor, a human pilot who bears an uncanny physical resemblance to Jean Grey. Due to increasingly tense human-mutant relations and Scott's high-profile status, there's an uncomfortable amount of media attention on their romance.

He does his best to follow Xavier's example and speak out against the MRA in a diplomatic way, with mixed results. Even after Kurt returns, Cyclops stays in the spotlight, as he's worried about putting too much pressure on Kurt.

2023 - X-Tinction Agenda - On Genosha, Scott is forced to battle a brainwashed Jean, and desperately tries to jog her memory and avoid hurting her. Not wanting to spend time with Jean afterwards, he chooses to help Genosha recover. Very soon afterwards, Scott and Maddie break up.

2024 - Returns home from Genosha just before the start of the new school year. He becomes a teacher at the school (geometry, trig, battle tactics).

For the first time, Cyclops has a new uniform that doesn't cover his hair, which boosts his popularity online. He gets back together with Madelyne for two months, but they break up again before Christmas, at the same time Xavier is found in a coma.

CHARACTERS: Bobby Drake

[personal profile] hotfrosty bobby drake ❄️ has a perfect attendance rate. Date: 2025-01-13 03:51 am (UTC)
hotfrosty: (Default)
concept: outgoing, gregarious, playful, loyal, lighthearted, and optimistic. puts a lot of pressure on himself to be the Most Helpful and Good person he can — which leads to neurotic self-sabotage. insecure. needs to fix your problems problems, mutants' problems; everyone's problems (except his own). spent most of his life trying to get the attention of his parents who, when they realized their son was a mutant, blamed themselves and withdrew emotionally.

what he's known for:
  • always volunteers for interviews/soundbites/etc.; tries to be a Good, Wholesome Public Face for mutant-kind and texts every positive piece of press to his parents even though the most he gets back is a 👍.
  • tries to keep it chill & never backs down from a good–bad ice pun.
  • the one with local knowledge bc he grew up two hours away
  • historically, crushes on so many girls and falls fast. none of these have been long-lasting. happy to have a couple of exes that i promise he won't be weird about lmao

  • 2006ish. during a swim one afternoon, a young boy in port jefferson, NY, freezes his family's pool.

2014. 14-year-old bobby drake arrives at the school. his parents tell everyone it's a prestigious boarding school; bobby knows they took one look at this totally untested experiment of a Home for Wayward Mutants and realized it would make their lives easier even if cornell's admissions board will laugh when they shred his college applications. he combats this with trying to be the best student and mutant and son he can, to varying levels of success.

2015, Dancin' in the Dark. bobby wants to chat up girls from the upper east side (granted, because he had a crush on blair waldorf), instead spends his time blocking tunnels and creating icy underground diversions because kurt got himself 'napped.

2016, the X-Men form. bobby isn't ready to give up on his parents but he wants to know if this counts as a family now???

2016, Jack O'Diamonds. bobby reconsiders "iceman" as a moniker because "jack o'diamonds" is so badass. none of his suggestions—cry-o'boy, frostbite, sno cone—stick.
  • bobby gets his learner's permit and buys a 1996 honda civic. his parents don't extend any more invitations home than they did before. he offers to drive everyone everywhere and it probably gets annoying.

  • 2018, Wildways.
bobby absolutely kills the dating game aspect in mojoworld: always with women. always with unattainable... extradimensional... women. he has a type. ... sort of.

2019, Days of Future Past. bobby fights for going public, arguing that nothing good comes from silencing an entire slice of the population. (he historically hasn't agreed with xavier's approach of keeping information close to his own chest either, so this doesn't come as a surprise.)

2020, God Loves, Man Kills. this is the angriest y'all have ever seen this boy. some might argue that he looked like he was trying to get shot. he later gets a call from his mother berating him for nearly giving his father a heart attack.
  • [UCLA] bobby leaves for college shortly thereafter. he'd originally accepted their offer because it was far from new york state and he needed a fresh start; but anonymity means fuck all when a psycho preacher just tried to kill you on national television.
  • [UCLA/NY] bobby and kitty have a 6-month long-distance relationship where they rarely see each other in person. the split is amicable. the end.

  • 2021. affiliated with the x-men but on an education hiatus, bobby begins accepting calls from reporters, journalists, and similar to speak about mutant issues. becomes a public face for the movement. has peeta mellark charisma on screen.
  • [maybe??] seeking the same camaraderie he had at the institute, co-founds the champions of los angeles. they don't last long. maybe he joins the defenders after?? idk. but he should totally have his relationship with cloud so

  • 2022.
hates the concept of an MRA with the fury of a thousand suns but he's been so public that there's no way he can't register.
  • [NY] bobby goes to his dad's retirement party and falls in love with the girl next door after trauma-dumping his daddy issues on her for precisely two (2) hours. she turns out to be mirage. she becomes her dad, it's a whole thing, and bobby is turned off forever.

  • 2023, X-Tinction Agenda. tbd
  • this is probably when our comphet king comes out as gay and he's probably the last one to know

  • 2024. graduates UCLA and works towards his CPA for a month before returning to the institute. he teaches math, accounting, algebra, and "hey what's the weirdest thing you can you do with your powers?"
